Beneath the democratic and legalistic gilding has always been the latent and hidden power of a ruling class that hasn't been seriously challenged in centuries. But this is the truth of what Britain is, and long has been. I know this isn't how most people in Britain want it to be. Well isn't that lovely? Another demonstration of the true principles on which Britain operates - set everything else on fire to protect the wealthy and powerful, even if they're objectively scumbags. Apologies to anyone who wants a link, i don't have one, it was years ago, but recent events in the last few news cycles brought this back to the forefront of my memory, also shortly after a local councillor was charged and convicted of a sexual offence, bascially being touchy feely with a waiter at a function, think the guy was 17, the guy is on the sex register, was suspended but refused to resign, last i took notice he never sits but he VOTES While the incident itself was bad enough, it opened uup a wee can of worms up here that sort of follows up OP's post, after the incident(no chages were eventually filed, surprise, surprise) a tweet came up on lots of political pages on FB, it was from the said MP'S ex-husband, which in a short and to the point way said "this is why he is not my husband no longer", fair do's the guys a bit rapey and possibly has a drink problem, well that was not the end of the story, fortunately for my happless MP his role had finished.Ī short while later an archived reddit thread began doing the rounds, it was from a former gay young Scottish conservative activist that recounted a rather sad story, years since i read it(think this was 2018?) as far as i can remember the gist is he eventually left the party as if you were young and gay, you would be preyed uponand exploited, asked for sexual favours with threats of outing for example, unannounced shared bedrooms on junkets, bullying, it was a sad read. Off topic from the OP, but can you remember a young Scottish Tory MP who was escorted out of a pub after feeling up a guy in a bar within the HoC? That wee scrote was my MP for a few years, thankfully only one term, the local party had the sense to drop the guy just before the election, his lists of his fuck ups was quite long for such a short tenure.
